Ego Filled Trainwreck
shark-4312 June 2009
No matter how well meaning his "message" is - this film is a terribly made trainwreck - awful acting, lame camera work - I do not know why Carr agreed to try and pull off a stutter - he is lousy at it. You watch the extras on the DVD and the way he has a camera follow him around - he just soaks it up - he loves being the center of attention. He is a bad actor - he reminds me of another arrogant filmmaker - Eric Schaffer. Some how Carr has had this film shown at city Youth Centers and New Age churches - where damaged people looking for reinforcement and attention themselves babble on about how the film touched them and maybe it did - but as a film itself it is choppy, predictable and sappy.

absolutely terrible

This is the most pretentious piece of crap from a (supposed) director I have ever seen. Every review that is positive not only is over the top with ranting and raving of this piece of crap film, but every user that made the review signed up just to write their one review. They never used their account for anything else ever again. While all the negative (real actual) reviews are from users that have posted hundreds of times and are actually active. Don't believe me? Go check it out for yourself. Suspicious?? Also, every positive review has at most 1-2 out of 10-12 of the "people found this review useful", while the negative reviews are all 10 out of 11. This director/actor is a complete narcissistic jackass. I guarantee the only reason it is rated higher than a 1 is because this douche signed up for a dozen accounts and rated it a 10. Notice how it only took 10 accounts to get it above a 1? That's because only about 50 people even took the time to vote on this piece of trash. Also, the positive reviews are riddled with spelling and grammatical errors which furthers the evidence of this moron's retardation. I hope his mother's dog and servants get to keep all of his money so he can't make anymore of this horrendous films. I wish it were possible materialize the concept of this film and spit on it. He actually thinks this is good, one of his self-reviews says it's a "thinking mans film", you have got to be kidding me. This man is such a freaking moron, I'd be surprised if he doesn't need help tying his own shoes.

A unique perspective about who we are.
jizzo-516 April 2006
How often do we take time out to really contemplate who we are? What we are made of? What defines us and develops our character? I can admit I really never thought a lot about those kinds of things, but "Revoloution" got me thinking about my past, my life, and how I have been defined.

As a film in and of itself, the movie was pretty darn good, but as a tool or "trigger" to get those juices flowing about our lives...Marvelous.

I urge you to view this production not as a piece of entertainment, but as something more. Something that might help you realize what characterizes you. What got you here, and what made you You.

It is guaranteed to awaken your spirit and compel you to live the life of your dreams.

This movie is what it claims to be an independent film that fosters a personal revolution. Brett Carr brings humanity and heart to his performance as a stuttering boxer with past trauma. Anyone with heart can connect to this character and his struggle as his past continues to repeat itself in his life. As Lou's world comes crumbling down, he is driven to transform himself and the audience transforms with him. This film is transformational/spiritual cinema at its finest. In a time when when most films are all about money, this is all about the heart. It is guaranteed to awaken your spirit and compel you to live the life of your dreams.

Truly an amazing film.......!!!!!!!!

This film offers a realistic lens, one that allows any viewer to become the main character "LOU". In becoming LOU we are able to leave our very self involved and to some extent selfish lives to communicate and experience life on a different level a more compelling/compassionate level... Life is the greatest story that we will ever have.... Bret Carr's authentic writing reveals our direct connection to the natural world and reminds us that we are not so much born into this world as grown out of it. Bret Carr examines these fundamental questions: Who am I? Why am I here? What is the nature of the world around me? "Outside us we face a world that is profoundly alien to us in the sense that what is outside "me" is not me, and this sets up a fundamental sensation of hostility and estrangement between ourselves and the so-called external world." (Watts) I believe that this film challenges the hegemony of a certain genre of films. Films today are not made to enlighten instead they are only created to generate a certain profit and to create a quick comedic or action fix for its viewer.

DIY satori (NYC style)
rumdagger22 May 2006
'Revoloution' is a beautifully paced film that hooks you from the opening scene and never bogs down in New Age cheesiness but hews closer to the Buddhist mandate of seeing things as they are and doing what has to be done. It reminded me of my first experience with yogurt: I thought I would be put off by the experience and ended up happily surprised.

There are plenty of things for the serious film fan to savor: 'Rocky' references and re-workings (including music by Bill Conti, a cameo by Burt Young, and the whole 'Rocky' of the soul vibe), lively camera work (including some great shots of NYC locales), and engaging and believable performances.

Truly worthwhile. Do yourself a favor and go see it.
theatreathena24 May 2006
"Revoloution" has been called "visceral" and "moving" by TimeOut NY, but Jeannette Catsoulist of The New York Times has chosen to mock the movie rather than focus on what it's really doing: forcing people to confront their issues. Maybe she has a few of her own to confront. I'm just saying. ...Don't we all?

Because this movie isn't about the usual stuff.

This movie is about a street kid who transforms his life. This movie is about coming to terms with your inner demons and troubled pasts. This movie is perfect for teenagers to see. This movie is a chance to make your life matter, for once. This movie is about clarity. This movie is about owning the choices you've made and seeing that they're just choices and therefore you can make new choices at any time. This movie is about subverting the dominant structures that privilege the dollar over the community. This movie is about love. This movie is about joy. This movie is about living, I mean, really ...living.

Try it. It's free.

Watch this film, really nice change!
voodooz888 March 2008
I hadn't heard of this film before and only stumbled across it by chance,

It isn't trying to be a billion dollar production and quite frankly doesn't need to be.

I found you can really feel for the lead character because he just wants to be understood, and not given the chance, and his aggression as a fighter stems from his anger over his speech.

The ending was a real feel-good way to finish, well done

Im really glad i watched it and will be recommending it to friends.

So if u don't know what to watch try this one!

Carr's RevoLOUtion Takes the ROCKY sports movie to the next level... a brilliant mind liberator
wayne-35022 November 2006
Powerful, audacious acting and film-making. If you've ever wanted to hang with a tough guy, and really know what goes on in his head, then this movie will give you compassion for him. And if you know of one, this movie will make him into a more compassionate guy. This is basically Passion of the Christ without leaving Brooklyn, but without the pornographic violence that Mel Gibson inserted. And it's funny. Short summation: Lou is a sh_t starter cause he has issues. He runs out of options, and has to overcome his stutter to get a job coaching. He learns that his stutter is about his past not his mouth. But then what happens is some of the most thrilling acting and film-making you are likely ever to see. You jump into this guys psycho-stuttering world and get to FEEL and LOOK at YOURSELF. The story just smacks you in the face just when you think, "I feel so bad for this guy", and then wham, everything it's been building up to, getting you to identify with gets turned around on YOU. And i'm left sobbing besides myself. EVERYONE SHOULD SEE THIS.
